Ethéré creates handcrafted niche perfumes inspired by memory, place, and emotion. Every fragrance is blended in small batches in New Jersey using organic sugarcane alcohol, botanical ingredients, and naturally-derived aroma compounds that meet the highest standards of purity and safety.
Why Ethéré Exists
I've always believed perfume should do more than simply smell beautiful.
It should transport you somewhere.
A windswept coastline.
Your grandmother's kitchen.
A favorite café.
A rainy autumn afternoon.
The people we love.
The places we never really leave.
Ethere was born from my desire to bottle these fleeting moments - to create fragrances that hold the feeling of somewhere, somehow, forever.
I'm Julia, the founder and perfumer behind Ethéré.
For me, perfumery is a form of translation.
My background is in global storytelling and cultural reception, and I've always been fascinated by the ways meaning changes across languages, places, and cultures. Scent works much the same way. A flower can represent one thing in one part of the world and something entirely different somewhere else; a familiar aroma can carry a memory that belongs only to you.
That perspective shapes how I create at Ethéré. My formulation process often extends beyond traditional perfumery into ethnobotany, botanical history, geography, and cultural symbolism — considering not only how a material smells, but where it grows, how it has been used, and what it has meant to different people and places. Whether I'm interpreting an ingredient, a memory, a personality, or an imagined world, my work begins with understanding what something means — and translating that meaning into something you can wear.
Meet the Perfumer
Natsukashii is a Japanese expression for the warm, bittersweet feeling of being suddenly transported back to a cherished memory. It captures something I have always loved about fragrance: scent doesn't simply remind us of the past — for a moment, it can make a person, place, or feeling seem present again. That sense of connection between scent and memory sits at the heart of Ethéré.
I like to turn the traditional idea of a “signature scent” around. Instead of asking, “What fragrance smells like me?” I ask, “If my essence could become a fragrance, what would it smell like?” The answer isn't always found in a list of favorite notes. It can live in colors, textures, places, contradictions, rituals, memories, and the strange little details that make you you. Those are the things I want to translate into scent.
And sometimes, the question isn't who you are, but what you want to keep with you: What does this memory I never want to lose smell like? A person you love. A summer you still think about. A home you left behind. A place you've never forgotten — or even an imagined world you wish existed. Perfumery gives those intangible things a physical form: something deeply personal that can be bottled, worn, and returned to again and again.

Ethéré fragrances are composed using natural essential oils, botanical extracts, and carefully selected natural fragrance accords. Every perfume is blended in an organic sugarcane alcohol base (Kosher, Halal, FCC, 190 proof). When fragrance materials are used, I source from suppliers whose materials meet my standards for being: phthalate-free, paraben-free, vegan, cruelty-free, non-hormone disrupting and free from known carcinogenic and mutagenic ingredients. I am always prioritizing safety, artistry & performance, always choosing essential oils where possible.

Yes. If you have known sensitivities, allergies, or ingredients you prefer to avoid, please include them when ordering or contact me before purchase. Because every custom perfume is formulated individually, I can take those considerations into account while designing your fragrance. Customers come to me with specific allergies, values, & needs, and I always strive to help those with sensitivities to wear the fragrance of their dreams - as someone with my own allergies & sensitivities as well!

Ethéré fragrances are made at a rich EDP ‘Intensiv’ concentration, with formulas sitting around 30% aromatic oils. They are designed to feel present and long-lasting on the skin without becoming overpowering. Longevity will vary slightly depending on the formula, your skin, and the notes used!🌷

Yes, I offer Discovery Sets featuring multiple 5 ml fragrances, as well as a 3×10 ml set for exploring or travelling with several scents.
When it comes to bespoke samples, as the sole business operator of Ethéré Parfum, it becomes difficult to craft small samples of every single newly designed fragrance. I don’t currently offer sample-size versions of custom formulas before the full fragrance is made. But, I am confident I can create something you will love & will work diligently with you to find the best balance of scent notes.

Creating a custom fragrance is a conversation, not a test — you don't need to know perfume terminology or arrive with a list of notes. Tell me what you want to smell or feel, where that feeling exists, or about the memory, person, place, or atmosphere you want to capture. The stranger and more specific the details, the better.
From there, I translate your ideas into fragrance. My research can extend beyond traditional perfumery into botanical history, geography, ethnobotany, and cultural symbolism — looking not only at how an ingredient smells, but where it grows, how it has been used, and what it has meant in different places.
Every formula is then composed, blended, and bottled individually by me.

International shipping is currently handled on a case-by-case basis. Changes to U.S. and international customs rules have made duties and import fees less predictable, so additional charges may apply depending on the destination.
