Ffern Autumn ‘26: Moonlit Heather ft. Hara and the Hare

ffern autumn 2026 handmade botanical perfume with bespoke artwork diffusion disc and lavender aesthetic

I have seen adverts for this brand's perfume on TikTok for quite some time, and though the imagery was beautiful and the values of the company spoke to me deeply (seemingly focused on natural perfume, botanicals, and storytelling), there was a waitlist, and the medium of TikTok ads made me wary. Getting off the waitlist and signing up for their quarterly shipment of a special seasonal batch perfume was intriguing, but when I opened this box today on the Autumn Equinox (was in my mailbox specifically today, as described which was an extra touch of magic) I was taken aback at how much of a multi-media experience this little box held. I have to write about not just the perfume itself, but the experience; it travelled far and beyond my expectations.

Firstly, everything for this release must have been meticulously planned out for quite some time. There is a beautifully aesthetic video alongside this perfume of the story of Hara and the Hare (which could be directly accessed via the 'ticket' pictured... cute touch). I watched this video while experiencing this perfume for the first time. In the box, there was also a bespoke pin, artwork, and even a stamped clay diffusing disc. The diffusing disc is included in the sampling box alongside testing strips (“mouillettes”) for you to try out the fragrance on your skin first before "breaking the seal" of the larger box to the perfume and deciding to keep it, like a seasonal subscription box. I did not realize this at first and went straight to the full bottle, but I'm glad I did. It is another thoughtful addition however, being able to personally test if the quarterly fragrance release suits you well enough to keep.

Sidenote for tea lovers: as a tea lover myself with an affinity for herbs, knowledge about herbal treatments, and my own apothecary of about 70+ dried flowers, roots, plants, etc. - I was so touched to find a sample of Ffern's own herb-farm-harvested (Somerset, England) dried herbal tea for autumn in the sample box as well. I steeped this "reminiscent of hay meadows at harvest time” blend on the night of the Autumn Equinox, and found it to be a classically green slightly grassy natural tea.

Now, for the perfume itself. I was delighted to see that everything in the bottle was natural, and Ffern had included a list down to the last detail of where each and every oil came from (something I do myself with Ethere, but Ffern went into even more of the minutiae). The information label had an authorized sticker (which could mean anything, of course) but I also appreciated that they labeled the maturity and maceration times, as well as a neat top/middle/base count of the oils which was also an interesting and informative addition.

The perfume's fragrance is strong, yet balanced – fresh at the top but still giving a grassy yet powdery moonlight in autumn essence. The first spray surprised me at first, as it was surprisingly cohesive but brighter and lighter than I had imagined after reading the notes. I also tested on my skin, where the top notes faded quicker and the lasting impression held on for a long time. It really did live up to its namesake, a calming herbal lavender-forward heart surrounded by dry hay and green notes of a prairie... My Ethere "Lunar" fragrance from the Astra Essentia Collection has a similar vibe, but where Lunar is more lactonic, this was fougiere. There was a rituality to the explanation of notes and inspiration, which I appreciated, and I actually added both the perfume and both into my own little Autumn Equinox ritual that evening. There is longevity and value with this formula; one spray will go a long way.

And so will Ffern.
